Ernest Moniz, Energy Secretary, recently unveiled $53 million in new investments through the SunShot Initiative designed to drop the cost of solar manufacturing and deployment.  Since 2011, the SunShot Initiative has invested $250 million to $270 million yearly in companies working to strip the production and installation cost out of photovoltaics and concentrating solar power.

Who chooses to install solar panels on their roof?  Two researchers at Yale and the University of Connecticut found that the single most important factor driving whether a given house installed solar was peer influence -- whether other houses nearby had recently done so.  People have called it green envy before, where you want to be green so that you can show off your greenness effectively.
