The sun could be the world's leading electricity source by mid-century with the amount of new photovoltaic panel installations soaring at 100MW daily, according to several new reports issued by the International Energy Agency.  By 2050, PV panels could produce 16% of the world's electricity, while solar thermal electricity is on track to produce 11%.

In the last year, the solar industry saw more robust expansion than ever before, growing 41% in 2013 which is good news considering carbon emission have also reached a record high.  Research and development of renewable energy and adoption of alternative energy sources such as solar power are still slow going, but they seem to be heading in the right direction.
