PRAIRIE FIRE SOLAR PLANT 

       February, 2014

Tucson-based SOLON Corporation completed construction of a 5-megawatt solar plant on the southeast side of Tucson, Arizona for Tucson Electric Power.  TEP owns and operates the solar production facility which spans 28 acres and is composed of more than 17,000 solar panels. 

TEP is leasing the acreage from Pima County.  Over the course of a year, the Prairie Fire array is expected to produce approximately 9,000 megawatt hours.

The Environment America Research & Policy Center has released its annual report ranking the top 10 U.S. states with the most cumulative solar electric capacity installed per-capita.  The amount of per-capita installed capacity in 2013 was 109 W/person, securing Arizona's top rank as the state with the most cumulative per-capita capacity.

Tucson Electric Power has asked he Arizona Corporation Commission to approve a new program to install company-owned photovoltaic systems on residential customers' roofs, free of upfront charges.  In exchange, customers would pay a fixed monthly electric rate based on historical usage.
