PRAIRIE FIRE SOLAR PLANT 

       February, 2014

Tucson-based SOLON Corporation completed construction of a 5-megawatt solar plant on the southeast side of Tucson, Arizona for Tucson Electric Power.  TEP owns and operates the solar production facility which spans 28 acres and is composed of more than 17,000 solar panels. 

TEP is leasing the acreage from Pima County.  Over the course of a year, the Prairie Fire array is expected to produce approximately 9,000 megawatt hours.

In June, solar advocates and electric utilities reached an agreement on solar policy in Massachusetts.  One of the changes to solar policy is subjecting all electric utility customers to a minimum bill. GTM Research explores the potential impact of the proposed Massachusetts minimum bill in a new report, The Minimum Bill as a Net Metering Solution.

As we near the expiration of the federal Investment Tax Credit at the end of 2016, the solar industry is engaged in a full-court press with energy stakeholders and legislators to emphasize how badly their business will be hurt by the elimination of the tax credits.
