 $1M Federal Grant Fuels UA-Developed Solar Technology
A $1 million award from the Department of Energy could help solar power technology developed at the University of Arizona revolutionize the way sunlight is convered into electrical power.
 

The grant was awarded to REhnu Inc., a spin-off company founded by UA optics professor Roger Angel.  REhnu will commercialize the system from successful prototype to production-ready form.  Read more.

SunPower Corporation expects photovoltaic panels to become a standard feature in new home construction in the U.S.  SunPower expects to double its customer base as demand for smaller systems outpaces installations of large, utility-scale solar farms.

According to a study by GMT Research, solar power is expected to be competitive with coal by 2016.  However, two problems still exist and need to be solved:  One is the storage and distribution of electricity, and he second is maintenance.
